Rodan Builders and SVA Architects teamed up for the Design/Build Albany Middle School Annex project.

The scope of this project was to take an unused piece of District property across the street from the existing Albany Middle School campus and transform it into new classroom space, admin capacity, and provide for an education and public use drama theatre space. The project received a completely new look by SVA Architects when the selection committee admitted they weren't completely happy with the bridging documents they had been working from. With that in mind, we devised a combination of one and two-story building spaces to blend a new school into a neighborhood containing apartments, single-family homes, and the existing campus. The new buildings became a net-zero energy user with the addition of a rooftop solar solution. The project is also CHPS (California High Performance Schools) certified.
